Pumpkin is a fall treat which is also good for your skin. Its full of enzymes and natural alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) to increase cell turnover, brighten and smooth skin. The Vitamins A & E plus zinc make it good at for acne by regulating oil production, healing breakouts and reducing inflammation.
The skin below our necks needs care but is often neglected, so this fall, try this body scrub that you can make at home.
Pumpkin Spa Body Scrub
1/2 cup organic pureed pumpkin
1/3 cup organic brown sugar
1 tbsp organic coconut oil
1 tbsp honey
Optional - Add a 1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon or clove (these can be irritating if applied directly to the skin, so omit if you're skin is sensitive). I like these because they bring oxygen to the skin and muscles, but the effect is some temporary skin redness from increased circulation. If you don't mind this, go ahead.
Mix everything in a small, clean, unbreakable container and bring to the tub or shower. Step into the shower or tub, but don't turn on the water yet. Apply a small amount to one leg, rub in for 2 minutes, concentrating on areas that need extra attention like elbows and knees, then leave on and go to the next body part. Continue in this manner until you've covered your legs, arms, torso and back, avoiding sensitive areas like neck and breast, or any areas where skin is broken, inflamed or otherwise compromised. Now you can turn on the water and use a cloth to help you remove the scrub. Rinse well, don't leave any on your skin.
Your skin will feel wonderfully smooth! Now apply some body oil or lotion to seal in the moisture. Do this weekly for noticeable skin benefits.
