Appointments are necessary, but feel free to call for last minute appointments anytime. Can I have a massage if I am pregnant? In most cases, yes. I have advanced training in prenatal and post-partum massage therapy, and can work with you throughout your pregnancy and after your delivery. I am happy to work with your doctor or midwife if you have any concerns. See Prenatal Massage Brooklyn NY page for details. If you are a new client or a newly pregnant existing client, please complete the Pregnancy Client Information Form and have it ready for your appointment. Are men permitted to have treatments at Calm? Men may only have appointments when accompanied by a lady, ie., for couple's treatments. Are there space and equipment requirements for a home visit? Are there extra charges? I'll need a quiet room with space for a massage table the size of a twin-sized bed, plus room to walk around it. Access to electrical outlets, a bathroom and a microwave may be needed depending on your treatment. A massage table, linens and other items will be brought to your home. Home visits are $250 for the southern NYC area. Save $50 per visit if you wish to own your table. It's easier than you think, and I can help you with the process. Please call or email for details. What are the policies on lateness and cancellation? 24 hours notice is required to change or cancel your appointment to avoid a 50% charge to the credit card used to reserve your appointment. No-shows will incur a 100% charge. If you are running late for your appointment, please call as soon as possible. Since late arrivals are charged in full for the reserved time, we will attempt to accommodate the full treatment time, but will be unable to if it interferes with another client's appointment. How do I prepare for a treatment? If you are a new client, please fill out the New Client Information Form and have it ready for the pre-appointment consultation. Avoid a heavy meal or empty stomach before massages or facials, and do not use alcohol or use medication that causes sleepiness or drowsiness before or after massage. Time is needed before treatment to conduct your holistic evaluation, prepare products, and for home visits, time is needed to set up equipment. Your treatment time is not used for these activities so that we ensure you receive a full treatment based on the time you have reserved. Please arrive at your scheduled time. It is also recommended that you silence your cell phone and avoid other distractions to your treatment. What do I wear for my massage or facial treatment? Although you will need to remove your clothing, you will be covered by a sheet and blanket which will be removed from the area being worked on at the time, then recovered. Jewelry must be removed for many treatments, so it is best if you leave it home. If you are wearing makeup, it is best to remove it before your facial appointment.
In general, drink water after treatments and be good to yourself for the rest of the day! This includes eating well, avoiding alcohol, and avoiding strenuous activity. For any facial treatment, it is recommended that you do not wear makeup afterward. An organic sunscreen will be applied for your protection. After your treatment, you will receive a home care instruction sheet by email for anything specific to your treatment. As always, call me if you have any questions.
Massage that is prescribed by a doctor and performed by a licensed massage therapist may be deductible. Here's a few ways it has been for other clients;
