What's an organic facial peel? How can it help my skin?
Professional organic facial peels are any combination of AHA’s and BHA’s, which are types of acids from fruits and milk sugars. They dissolve bonds between cells to loosen dead skin cells and create a controlled wound response that causes skin to regenerate. Be assured that the peels used at Calm are not chemicals synthesized in a lab and soaked in chemical bases, but naturally-occurring acids from organic sources.
Peels performed by a professional can help your skin achieve new levels of smoothness, evenness and clarity, without any downtime. Peels can be added to your regular facial or microdermabrasion treatments, or can be offered alone in a series for stubborn skin issues.
Benefits of a professional customized peel series include;
Why should I have a series of peels?
Having one peel is beneficial, and best results are from a series of peels. Each peel can go a little deeper, addressing more fine lines and discoloration, if performed before a layer of dead skin cells has had a chance to build up again. The series is usually a weekly peel for 4 to 6 weeks. After the series, its best to get a peel every 4 to 6 weeks for maintenance. An acne peel may need to be done every 2 weeks until the acne clears.
When will I see results?
Immediately after your peel you’ll notice improved hydration, texture and brightness. Reduction of acne and hyper-pigmentation can take several treatments, and may need to be combined with other treatments for best results. Peels don't address deep wrinkles, extensive sagging, or hormonal hyper-pigmentation. See your doctor about laser treatments and other medical procedures in addition to proper home care.
Who can have a facial peel?
Most women can receive a facial peel. You'll need to wait if you;
Cold sores, pregnancy and darker skin tones
Having a facial peel can cause a cold sore outbreak, so you must take your anti-viral meds the day before, the day of and the day after treatment.
Having a peel with darker skin tones can increase hyper-pigmentation, so a proper home care regimen is essential before and after your peel.
Only certain types of peels can be used for pregnant or lactating women. Enzyme peels are used to reduce chances of hormonal hyper-pigmentation.
How does a peel feel?
After a detailed analysis of your skin condition, health, home care regimen, etc., your peel type will be chosen, and applied to your skin, timed, then removed and neutralized. The skin more easily accepts nutrients, so a serum or masque may be used to achieve the results you are seeking.
Peels may feel warm and tingly, or may itch or sting, but I'll be monitoring you to see how your skin is reacting, and make adjustments from there, including stopping the peel you experience discomfort. Any sensation will lessen when the peel is removed, and usually disappears by the time you leave.
After your peel - home care
After the facial peel, you'll need to use only gentle, non-chemical cleansers and spf. SPF is necessary since your skin will be more susceptible to hyper-pigmentation. Discontinue Retin-A/retinol products for 10-14 days after your peel.
